Stefanie Schairer

Since I can remember I am interested in getting to know and exploring „the other“. I can find this in relationships, in cultures or spaces.

In my artistic work I am using different materials and working fields. In my art work I am exploring shapes, forms, manner, effects and design of relationships. Thereby I am interested in interpersonal relationships as well as relationships between objects and materials.

My proving ground I do mainly find in painting, sculpture/installation and performance/interaction in public space.

My paintings exist in a place between abstraction and mild figuration. The language I create with symbolistic pictorial phrases and color ist wvocative and can suggest to the participant a diagram with a hidden meaning theat requires desciphering.

The initial point of my painting is the colour, the dorrway to the shape.

Becuas of my intuitive selection of colours, arises a dialogue between "in" and "out", until the form comes up which wants to be shown. Memories - moods - mments. Therefore my work is predominantely abstract.

I am a German artist who lives and works in Berlin, Germany and partly in NYC, USA. My background is art therapy and social work. I have participated in national and international exhibitions, primarliy in Germany and the United States. I am frequently collaborate with other artists on projects. These projects include THE THING and THE UNDERGROUND PROJECT (video art) with Fedele Spadafora (NYC), and Please continue (painting) with David Hage (USA) and Tuomo Heikkinen (Finland) and 2011 with Michael Adams (Zürich) „The barrel“ adapted to the work of Caspar David Friedrich. Since 2012 JJ&SS – collaboration with Jana Jacob (Berlin). For 7 years I have been developping installations/happenings/interactions in public space. 2015 to 2016 I have collaborated with Sarah Valeri, NYC.
